Your Provence Experience

On this 8 day / 7 night immersive tour of Provence, the sunny side of France, we will travel from bustling cities to perched hilltop villages and through verdant vineyard-laced valleys to experience the food, wine and traditions that have, for years brought famous artists, and even the Papacy, to this magnificent corner of France.

Bonjour! We will welcome you to our Provence tour around midday at Avignon’s TGV train station. Our hub is the beautiful Venice-like town of L’Isle sur la Sorgue known for its vibrant Sunday market featuring everything from fresh fruit and vegetable stalls to high-end antiques. Nestled next to a canal with the tranquil sounds of a moving water wheel, our home for the week is a quiet respite from town despite being nestled within it. The former silk factory has been thoughtfully renovated into a modern masterpiece of high-end rooms. There is marvelous beauty tucked away in this cloistered space.

The spokes of this tour take us on daily excursions to soak up all that that makes Provence shine!

We will visit Avignon, the home of the Popes during the 14th century. Here we will not only see the Palace of the Popes which is the largest medieval Gothic palace in the world, but also immerse ourselves in the sights, sounds and aromas of Les Halles marketplace. It’s a great place to try a tasty treat or find an authentic Provençal gift.

Winding over the Alpilles we will visit the village of Les Baux which is crowned on a stark and imposing precipice by a ruined fortress dating from at least the 10th century. This castle was owned by the Lords of Baux who ruled much of Provence for centuries. Here you will especially enjoy the winding lanes with adorable shops waiting to be explored. Just below town and deep in an old stone quarry, Carrieres Lumieres will delight us with an awe-inspiring multimedia art show. We will also see the familiar and often painted landscapes of Van Gogh as we peer out the windows of the monastery where he spent some of his most anguished days.

The famous Luberon hillside villages await us. Several of these small towns have been named the most beautiful in France, like Gordes with dwellings built within the rocky hillside, and Roussillon, flanked by dramatic ochre cliffs. We will also spend time in tiny hamlets where few tourists ever traipse. It is here that you will feel the warmth of pure Provence.

Can you believe that there are ancient Roman ruins in Provence? In Vaison-la-Romaine we will visit some of these ruins and discover what precipitated the arrival of the Romans to these lands. We will also see the famed Pont du Gard and the asylum where Van Gogh painted so many of his most famous paintings.

In true Hub & Spoke style you’ll meet and visit with locals, participate in regional pastimes, and have abundant opportunities to taste true French and Provençal cuisine. If wine is your thing--never fear--we will introduce you to some of the best rosé that the South of France offers! Outdoor markets are a highlight of Provence and we will visit several of the most lauded. Wandering the streets and soaking up the ambiance is the name of the game.

Hub & Spoke’s France | Provence tour will seamlessly weave you through the past and paint a beautiful understanding of the Provence of today.
